about THE MODERN SQUID

The Modern Squid is a Podcast dedicated to motorcycles and the people who ride them. In addition, we get to know the people behind our favorite riders and brands. We will go beyond the typical motorcycle podcast questions like, “what motorcycle do you ride?”

My name is Don and I’m your host. I started riding motorcycles in 2019 when I visited friends in Nicaragua. One of my buddies asked if I wanted to learn to ride and I jumped at the chance. The first bike I ever rode was a 125cc skylar. After my first ride, I was hooked! Once I was back in the US, I couldn’t stop thinking about riding again. I decided to take the MSF BasicRider course and started shopping for a motorcycle. Eventually, I found the perfect bike for me; a 2019 Harley-Davidson Sportster Iron 883. Her name is Willow, because she’s magic.

I fell in love with the Iron 883 because of the way it looked and sounded. The exhaust sounds great, even stock! At the moment, I haven’t made many changes to her. Mostly, because I expect to drop her a time or two while I improve my riding skills. Speaking of riding skills; I have been following along the with the MotoJitsu Master Riding Program written by Greg Widmar (AKA Fast Eddie). In the book, he outlines drills to practice along with the measurements for each drill. I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in improving their riding.
